in Wadi Shag. Water is channelled to gardens by black
pipes called "khartoum" for irrigation, a regular
feature of the wadis these days. |

| Tips and Notes |
| Water is the most important
element in the mountains. People who are trekking
in the area should be aware of this and must make
sure they don't contaminate the water. Trekkers
can find composting toilets in some of the Bedouin
gardens - as in the garden of Oda in Wadi Shag -
but at other places it is not available. Always
carry out your necessary business downstream from
water sources and burry all the waist. Eco-tourism
is not well established, but trekking and safari
companies in the mountains or the desert should
change to these sustainable pracices or they will
ruin their own business. Environmental, cultural
or eco-tourism is what can protect the area for
generations to come while providing some income
to locals and making the best experience for you. |
